As Zambia confront Tunisia in today’s Group A match at the CAF U-23
Championship in Senegal, Chipolopolo coach George Lwandamina has been
brought in to assist the Under-23’s in their quest to qualify for the
Olympic Games for the first time since 1988.
Lwandamina will become part of the technical team that is being led by his assistant at the senior national team, Fighton Simukonda.
Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) communications manager, Nkweto Tembwe, confirmed the news from Lusaka.
“The national team coach will travel with the Under-23 team and, besides, most of the players are also in the CHAN (African Nations Championship) team and so are the two coaches, so I see them working so well,” he said.
Simukonda, meanwhile, says he is optimistic about the team’s chances in Senegal. “Chances of performing well are there. We are going there to pass the group stage, that is why we are going there. Otherwise why are we not going there if we won’t perform?” he said. Zambia find themselves in Group A together with South Africa, Tunisia and Senegal.
